Congratulations to both bands for their performance at the CHSAA contest last week! The 6/7 band received a II overall with a I in sightreading; and the 8th grade band received a III overall with a III in sightreading. I think it was a great learning experience for everyone and the judges gave us some helpful comments for improving our playing. This week in class we will start focusing on music for our spring concert which is May 17. 6th & 7th graders will be signing up for Smart Music so they can take end of the year sightreading tests on there. This website is free however students will need to enter a parent email address. 8th graders will be taking sightreading tests as well; but they have already signed up on Smart Music.
Practice Week 23 is due today (2/27). This week we will continue rehearsing pieces for the band contest on April 7. We will join with the 6th grade band for this contest and play "Knightsbridge March" and "Legends." Recordings of both pieces can be found in the links to the right. There are only 3 weeks left in the 3rd quarter and plenty of time to raise your grade if needed. Please come talk to me if you would like to retake a test. Please remember that you will not be allowed to attend the trips on April 7 and May 18 if you receive an F in band for any quarter.
Please remember that if you receive an F in band for your quarter grade you will be ineligible for the band trip in the spring. If you receive a D for 2 quarters in band, you will also be ineligible. It is not too late to fix low grades for the 2nd quarter. Please check with me on how to bring up your grade.
Check out the link to right for 8notes.com. This website has resources for every instrument and free sheet music.
If you are using a school instrument this year, you will be required to pay a $50 deposit that will be refunded to you when the instrument is returned in good condition. If you damage the instrument due to misuse, the repair costs will be taken from your deposit. More information and checkout sheets will be handed out on the first day of class for those who need them.
